When the P.O.’s Disappear

The U.S. Postal Service recently announced that 3700 post offices across the country would be shutting their doors soon.

Historian and former postal worker Philip Rubio responded with an op-ed in the Washington Post. He writes:

The proposed post office closures cut across urban, rural and suburban lines. . . . But post offices everywhere, whether retail or full service, are not just sources of jobs. Losing postal jobs and post offices means losing community.
